Die Arbeiterklasse ist die einzige revolutionäre Klasse im Kapitalismus. Sie ist die einzige Klasse, die überhaupt die Macht hat, den Kapitalismus zu stürzen. Dadurch, dass die Arbeiterinnen und Arbeiter zum kollektiven Handeln gezwungen sind, können sie die Produktionsmittel auch nur als Kollektiv übernehmen. Die Arbeiterklasse hat ein Interesse daran, die Konkurrenz im Kapitalismus - besonders auch auf internationaler Ebene - zu überwinden. Sie ist objektiv internationalistisch. Eine Gesellschaft unter Führung der Arbeiterklasse wäre zig-mal demokratischer als ein System, das von den „oberen Zehntausend" mittels Kapital und ihren Medien geführt wird. Zudem ist die Arbeiterklasse, die einzige Klasse, die der Menschheit den Weg in die klassenlose Gesellschaft weisen kann. Aus diesem Grund steht für Marxisten die Selbstbefreiung der Arbeiterklasse im Zentrum aller revolutionärer Überlegungen.
